You may have seen Shorombo at Clubsportive, but what you don’t know is that there is a lot more than meets the eye.
Sho—more than meets the eye
You might have seen Shorombo in the gym, and you might have even had the experience of training with him, but what you probably don’t know is that there is much more to him than meets the eye. Shorombo is actually a life coach, and through his holistic hybrid coaching programs, he helps people turn their lives around. Going through his fair share of difficulties in life, Sho (as he is also known) has quite the story. Before he even turned thirty, he battled through severe depression, struggled with being overweight, and eventually found himself completely burned out.
But Shorombo is also a master of transforming his life. He has lived in three countries and has had several careers, ranging from working in the fast-paced investment industry to being beach manager in Curacao. He has not only transformed himself physically but in every area of his life. Today, he shares his hard-won knowledge and experience to help others.
Depression in his 20s
Shorombo could be called a true “experience expert”. He is very passionate about helping people live more fulfilling lives because he knows first-hand the consequences of not doing so. In his twenties, he was diagnosed with severe depression and went through the entire system of “traditional” healthcare. His ranged from seeing his local physician to appointments with psychologists and, at some points, he was even prescribed antidepressants. But when his psychologist told him that he might be manically depressed, enough was enough. Being told he may be sick for life was simply not acceptable, so Sho carved his own alternative route.
Shorombo decided to try another route, one that he could relate to. And he found it after meeting an orthomolecular therapist and coach who told him, “You are not sick, you are just a bit lost.” The contrast to what he had heard from his former psychologist rang in Sho’s ears. This perspective made all the difference. Under her guidance, he turned his life around by eating healthy, exercising, changing his lifestyle and, most importantly, investing in personal development. This has been the foundation of what he teaches today.
“The most important aspect of my recovery was personal development. Sometimes, you get lost in life, and that is okay. But you have to get to know yourself to know what you want. Everybody does.”
Burn-out at 30
After having lived abroad for a while, Shorombo returned to the Netherlands only to find out that he hadn’t built much of a life there. He promised himself to give it another go. He would give himself five years in order to get into the long-term mindset required to build a life, and only after these five years had passed would he take score. And after five years, the answer was in loud and clear. He suffered a massive burn-out. “Burn-out is something you can’t imagine if you’ve never been through it. It was hands-down the most painful experience I have ever been through, even harder than depression.”
At the point of burning out, Shorombo was quite literally at the end of his rope, barely sleeping or eating and not able to function normally anymore. The next three months were hell on earth, but at some point, Shorombo experienced a moment of clarity. “I remember very well that, at some point, I thought to myself, this might be a very dark period in my life, but I am going to turn it into my greatest victory yet.” During the following three months, Shorombo lost 25kg, quit smoking, decided to leave his job and moved back to Curacao to get a fresh start.
“When I look back at this period, I remember it as the best thing that could have happened to me,” says Shorombo, now fulfilled with a deeper understanding. Afterward, he made the decision to try to turn all his ordeals and suffering into something positive. He decided that with all the experience he had obtained during his thirty years, he would help others who were also struggling. “I am absolutely passionate about inspiring and helping as many people I can to maximize and pursue their most fulfilling lives.”
Holistic Life Coach
Now, Sho’s worst experiences are his fuel. Drawing on a lifetime of obstacles, his own experiences have now catapulted his personal growth. Knowing his clients’ pain gives him the unique ability to really connect with them. He knows that tough experiences can lead to great things. And he is a fellow human being in search of others who can share their struggles with him, instead of a typical doctor-patient relationship. “What people need is for someone to give them the right context, the tools to help themselves, and someone who believes in them.”
As a holistic life coach, Shorombo dedicates himself to helping people change their lives in a structured and integrative way. Shorombo focuses on all aspects of health, including nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, and, most importantly, personal development. He combines all of these essential elements into cohesive and practical programs. Mindset and personal development are at the root of most behavior and are always a big part of his training and coaching.
“Sustainable change comes from inside. That’s why I have created integrative programs based on all of my own personal and professional experience. They give people the framework and roadmap required to apply it to their lives.”
Shorombo offers three unique online and hybrid coaching programs and focuses on the following three groups:
